Today…we wait on You.
“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I will wait all day long.” - Psalm 25:4-5
I recently shared some thoughts on social media about raising our kids as sons and daughters first and really felt led to re-post it here.
Our desire and prayer as parents is to raise our kids to know, understand and pursue being a son of God. Just to BE a son.
be: To be fixed; to exist; to have a real state or existence, for a longer or shorter time. To be contents his natural desire. To be made to be; to become. - Websters Dictionary 1828
The greek word for “be” is: ginomai - to come into being, to happen, to become.
Being a son or daughter of God is to exist and to become. Everything else flows from that place of being a son or daughter of God. Our gifts, callings, fruits of the spirit, wisdom, etc. it all flows from being and knowing you are a royal priesthood, chosen and loved by God.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
- 1 Peter 2:9 ESV
This has come up consistently in conversation with our boys this year, that being a son and friend of God is the most important thing and comes first before anything else. Luke and I try to model this throughout our day and I’ll admit we constantly need course corrections to get back on track(remember grace, none of us are perfect 🤪).
Simple ways we model and teach it are through conversations, making quiet time in the mornings important(vital actually), inviting Jesus into our day as we journey through and prayer together as a family.
Being a child of God removes performance, invites freedom to simply BE with God and BE who He created us to be.
Whether you are thinking about yourself, a family member or your child remember:
God is happy to just sit with you.
Abba Father loves to walk with you throughout the day.
God never changes and His love for you doesn’t change.
So today I hope you are encouraged to wait on the Lord and just be with Him.
